                              Don’t Think Too Hard

Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven [stands affirm as the heavens]. Your faithfulness is from generation to generation; You have established the earth, and it stands fast. Psalm 119:89-90 (AMP)

• Hmmmmm!

• Hmmmmmmmmmmmm!

          I love to Think. As a matter of fact, thinking is one of my favorite pastime activities. That’s why it’s almost impossible for me to be bored. I turn idle time into planning sessions for upcoming projects. I don’t need a computer, or any other technical device to help me plan. The only tool I need is my brain. Though, thinking can work against me if I think on the wrong things, or if I think too hard and miss what’s staring me in the face.

          We can deactivate our faith by thinking too hard. Jesus told us plain and simple to just believe. But, if we have to know the details of how and when God is going to do the impossible, then we have stepped out of faith into reasoning, logic, and “irrational” thinking. It’s hard to grasp a hold of faith once our unbelieving thoughts get into the mix.

                                         Keep It Simple!

If we think too hard, we might over think and miss the basic principles in God’s Word. Simply take God at His Word when He said:

• We have the victory. (I Corinthians 15:57)    

• I will never leave you. (Hebrews 13:5)

• By His stripes we are healed. (I Peter 2:24)

Instead of over thinking the Word, we should throw our hands up in the air, and say:

         Forever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven. (Psalm 119:89)

                      

                            Thinking is a good thing; just don’t think too hard.

Week 121: A Freed-Up Mind

                                    A Freed-Up Mind

                          Now the just shall live by faith: Hebrews 10:38   

                               

• Free to be creative. . .

• Free to live your purpose…

• Free to be happy. . .

                    

Each week I write what I feel God has given me to write. With that said, this is the third consecutive week I’ve written about worry. Hmmm! Evidently I need this; I have to trust it’s helping you too.

        God wants us to have enough faith to trust Him to handle our problems. He doesn’t have to give us His itinerary: What He’s doing? How He’s going to do it? When He’s going to do it? We have to just believe that He is working no matter how it may seem. That’s faith! (Hebrews 11:1)

 However, since God will handle our problems, this will give us a freed-up mind to do what He wants us to do—for such a time as this. 

It doesn’t take a big stretch of the imagination to see how a freed-up mind is a threat to the enemy. The question is: What is it that he doesn’t want us freed to do?

                Worrying keeps us busy and out of the enemy’s hair.

If your mind was freed from worry, what productive thing would you do? What leaps of faith would you go for? Whatever that “thing” is could be a major clue to what you should be focused on, not some problem that only God can fix.

Ask God: Where should my focus be while You are handling my problems? This takes faith. Many times we are brainwashed into believing that we don’t have the wherewithal to do the will of God. Something else to worry about I guess.   

God is not going to expect us to do what He has not equipped us to do.

Week 120: Go to Sleep

                                        Go to Sleep!

             …when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? Luke 18:8b

• Blustery winds. . .

• Boisterous whitecaps. . .

• Ferocious seas. . .

Following last week’s writing, No Room for Worry, the devil came after me with both barrels. I guess he didn’t appreciate the faith challenge: “Let the storm waves rock you to sleep.”

        After he retaliated, I took the faith challenge. Not easy! The jolting, smashing, and banging of waves can be unnerving to say the least. I called on Jesus, read a few scriptures, forcefully threw all ungodly thoughts out of my mind, then I went to sleep; slept the whole night. I cannot say that I’ll be able to sleep throughout every storm that comes my way, but I did sleep during that one.

          In Luke 8:22-25, the disciples were given the faith challenge. Jesus told them let’s go over to the other side. Jesus wasn’t worried about anything. He said what He had to say, then He went to sleep.

As the disciples sailed, a fierce storm developed. Fearful for their lives; they woke Jesus saying, Master, master we perish. Jesus arose and calmed the wind and raging water then said, “Where is your faith?”  

                                                 A comforting thought:

        Even though the disciples lacked faith, Jesus responded to their cry.

Think about this: As life-threatening as the storm seemed, the disciples could have slept the whole time. If we look back at the personal storms we have gone through, we could have slept. I’m not demeaning the fact that there are times when we go through some extraordinary hard pressed times.

 Even still, God is with us. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.  Psalm 91:15 (AMP)

          The disciples had Jesus inside the boat with them; we have the Holy Spirit living inside of us. We carry Him every place we go. We are never without God’s love. He knows the waves are rough out here.

If your current situation is troubled; concentrate on the truth of God’s Word. He knows how much you can take, and at the perfect time He will put a stop to it.

                                       God is at the Helm.             

                                      Go to Sleep!
