If They Would Only Listen
Faithful is He Who is calling you… I Thessalonians 5:24
• That’s not a
good idea. . .
• You might want
to rethink that. . .
• Been there—done
that!
Sometimes we look at young people
and wonder, “Why won’t they listen to us?” At times we might sound controlling
and domineering, but all we want to do is help them not to make some of the same
mistakes we did. We have a reservoir of experiences, some good and some not so
good, that they can profit from. We’re not trying to run their lives. Been
there—done that—don’t wanna go back. It’s just that we know what’s ahead. If
they would just follow a few suggestions, and take a few tips it could save
them from a lifetime of misery—if they would only listen.
We know what can go wrong hanging
out with the wrong crowd. We know making a baby is a lifelong commitment. We
know marrying the wrong person could turn your life into a living nightmare. We
know the problems that could come about driving around without a license or car
insurance. We know the burden of having bad credit. And, the most important
thing we know:
Sin carries an ENORMOUS price tag called—Consequences.
But, we should understand why
young people won’t listen. A lot of times we don’t always listen—to God.
God
told us that no one born of Him deliberately practices sin (I John 3:9). Jesus told us that He is the only way to the
Father (John 14:6). God said for us to bring our tithes to the storehouse and
that He would open up the windows of heaven (Malachi 3:10). He made it clear
that He knows the right path for our lives (Proverbs 3:5-6). He also knows
where all the pitfalls are that the enemy has dug. (Psalm 141:9-10) God told us
that without faith we cannot please Him (Hebrews 11:6).
God
knows how it would profit us—
. . .if we would only listen.
