Root Rot
Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith,
from God the Father and the Lord
Jesus Christ. (Ephesians
6:23)
• Luscious fruit. . .
• Sweet fruit. . .
• Waxed fruit!
If
your plants are producing scrimpy fruit, or no fruit at all, it could be root
rot. There are reasons for this condition: poor soil, over watering, and insect
infestation, are just some of the causes. Rotten roots don’t produce good
healthy fruit.
The same can be applied to us spiritually. If
we’re not producing good spiritual fruit: love, joy, peace,
longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, meekness, and temperance, we should
check for root rot. Ask yourself, “What am I feeding my spirit?” Things such
as: Hatred, malice, strife, gossip, and even listening to
gossip can cause this deteriorating state.
In the plant world, there are chemical
fungicides to treat this threat. In the spiritual world, the number one
cure-all for root rot is: Love. Walking in love will produce good spiritual fruit.
The
most important thing we should develop as a Christian is the fruit of the
spirit. Our fruit offers a refreshing sweet juice to a bitter, hot tempered
world. The world is looking at our disposition, our attitude, our temperament
as we go about our day. Are we short and snappy, or patient and longsuffering?
There
are those who will try and cover up their rotten roots by displaying artificial
waxed fruit. It might look pretty and flawless on the outside, but when it’s
cracked under pressure—No juice!
You’ve
heard the phrase: One rotten apple spoils
the bunch. Don’t allow other people’s rotten roots spoil your crop.
Healthy
Roots—Produce Healthy Fruit!
