A
Shadow on the Wall
That your faith
should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. I Corinthians 2:5.
• Deception. . .
• Hallucination. . .
• Illusion. . .
Have you ever positioned
your hands to make a shadow on the wall, to look like an animal or something?
As realistic as the shadow looked, it wasn’t what the image portrayed.
The
devil uses this kind of trickery on us all the time. He will have us deceived
into holding a grudge, fighting a battle, or harboring resentment, whereas in
reality—the conflict only exist in our imagination. God placed the devil under
our feet. (Romans 16:20) Therefore, he has no business in our heads stirring up
fantasies.
Everything
that seems real—isn’t.
Why
does the enemy want us to think those wrong thoughts about people? He does it to
generate strife.
Of course, the father of deception doesn’t care if the circumstances
are based on lies. All he wants to do is build friction in our homes, in our
churches, on our jobs, and any place else he can stir up trouble. If we allow
those unsound thoughts to go unchallenged, before long they will become real
because of the way we react to them. Now we have a big mess of discord to
contend with.
Falling
for the devil’s lies disconnects our faith from God’s Power.
Here
are two techniques that I use to keep my negative thoughts under
control.
1. Love
is a powerful weapon against the enemy. I try not to flood my mind with negativity.
Not only does it do my physical body harm, but it makes it much harder to love my
neighbor. (Mark 12:31)
2. I
pray. The more I keep my mind on the things of God, the less chances the enemy
has to manipulate my thoughts with his lies.
It’s kind of sad when you think about it. Spending precious
time and energy fighting something that could be—
Just a
shadow on the wall.
Whoa!
